Fiction is Friction:
How to Make Dialogue Talk

Take a deep dive into what makes dialogue work by examining a few all-time greats and studying what's left unsaid. Emily Stone unpacks some of the mysteries that make scenes sink or swim. This two hour class includes a dynamic lecture, writing prompts, and a Resort-exclusive handout.

Make Your Memoir Remarkable

A recorded two hour lecture by Amy Jo Burns that will expand your thinking on memoir and inspire new and authentic writing. This offering also includes a worksheet of ten writing prompts to push your memoir to the next level, a list of helpful resources, plus access to a community of fellow memoirists.

The memoir lecture with Amy Jo Burns at The Resort was one of the best writing lectures I've been to, ever, and I've been working in creative writing for 30+ years.

What is...THE RESORT?

The Resort is a supportive writing community offering classes, a membership program, accountability options, and more, founded by writer and LIC Reading Series founder Catherine LaSota.

Catherine operates The Resort along with her husband, the filmmaker/podcaster Karl Jacob, from their neighborhood in Long Island City, Queens, NYC.

We serve writers in Queens and beyond, providing encouragement and resources to:

  • prioritize writing in your life

  • foster connections with other writers and publishing professionals

  • bring joy to the writing process

Join an international community of hundreds of writers who are working on memoirs, novels, stories, poetry, screenplays, and more. Our members develop consistent writing practices, submit their work more often, get published, win fellowships, and are awarded residencies. Most importantly of all, they develop a strong sense of themselves as writers and gain the benefits of community that are essential to a long writing life.
